This course helps understand the legal and institutional framework of anti-trust policy as well as the economic concepts and theories underlying competition policy.
This course draws on the literature of industrial organization and refers to competition policy cases, mostly from the EU.
We will in particular study (time permitting)
- The historical background leading to the development of competition policy,
- The differences in the functioning of competition agencies, particularly in the USA and in the EU,
- The sources of market power,
- Mergers and vertical agreements,
- Collusive practices,
- Predation
